Nothing gets me more miffed than getting a pm that says, "can I VO plz XD", but they don't have anything to show. Record some sample lines with a diverse range of emotions, and you'll be golden. Just keep in mind that if you approach animators, you need to start by showing them what you got.

I'm an animator/filmmaker, typically actors or voice actors will send a demo reel with footage of them acting in a few different scenes or else send an audio file of them saying lines in different voices. I think that's the best way for a video maker to get an idea of what your voice sounds like and what kind of range you have in case they want to use you for multiple characters, like an old man and a brave hero, for example, who can sound completely different but be played by the same actor
Im in the same boat as you and looked for that in actors I hired in my videos. Your sentiment is what I felt when looking as well. It's good to be reminded of this.

I'd recommend doing original voices over impressions and keep the demo short with your best work. Don't wait to be noticed. Contact the creators you want to work with and provide a link to your demo reel.

You need a two-minute reel with a few seconds of each voice you can do to show your range. Try to show male/female, age ranges, accents, cartoon, etc. Often times we will be listening for something and think, "Oh! Yes, I need that." Hope that helps.

You want to be a real VA? Move to either New York, Los Angeles, or Texas. And then contact the big studios and audition for them.
..I'm one who doesn't live near anyone of those.

There is a Voice Acting forum section on Newgrounds. Mostly people put help ads for voice actors. To be honest that's the only way you're going to find VA work on NG unless you become well-known and people hire you. If I had a decent microphone, I'd probably take it up myself.
